Abstract
The crisis is a constitutive and mobilizing element of sociology, emerging when
social transformations challenge existing theories of society, prompting a renewal of
theoretical tools and methodological approaches. It also influences the social standing
and institutional dynamics of the discipline. Based on this understanding, the text
explores the current crisis of sociology, linking it to profound changes in social bonds
that have occurred in recent decades. A key dimension of this transformation—one
of the six most important—is the increasing individualization of societies. Using the
case of Chile, the analysis examines how this process impacts existing theoretical
frameworks and conceptualizations, as well as how it destabilizes the social and
institutional role of sociology itself.
