Abstract

This article reviews some street visual expressions recorded around the Chilean social revolt of 2019 popularly known as ‘social outbreak’. The corpus is specifically made up of images installed on the walls during the protests and whose central motive was to express the need for a new Constitution for the country. The methodology is discourse analysis applied to images, with special focus on detecting what the visual persuasion strategies were in each image. These images have been organized in such a way that the reader is offered a journey that begins with those that denounce the need for a new constitutional text and ends with those that propose the ideological and programmatic foundations of the text. Subsequently, in the conclusions, we reflect on how these images, which belong to different authors, construct a homogeneous visual discourse with sufficient strength and agency to visualize what was difficult to verbalize.
