Abstract
Centered on the book Memorias de cocina y bodega, as well as some of his assorted writings on gastronomy, this essay discusses Alfonso Reyes’s criollo and experiential idea of food. Concretely, the essay discusses topics such as the connection of gastronomy with literary style, Reyes’s debates with the antidiets of the avant-garde, the uses of poetry in gastronomical representation and the emergence of a universalist idea of food through terroir.
